Out with the old...

We've revamped the front page of the JR again. This time, with a little thought and reason. As of Oct 1 the front page rail of ads on the left side were done away with, leaving with a more open news hole. All done with a blink of an eye, but our Masthead still needed to be brought back in line... My friends at Ed Henninger's blog were kind enough to dice the front page on the left. The results that came from that appear on the right. This time around I was allowed quite a bit of input on design elements and fonts- white space etc.

I'm pretty pleased with the results. So is the publisher! I'm just waiting see what the gang at Ed's place think of the news.

House Industries

I recently received a fabulous catalog in the mail. Not from some new hip clothing company, and not on super slick oversized glossy paper.
This was a not-so-humble booklet from House Industries, a type foundry in Yorklyn, DE.
Upon opening the manilla colored envelope I was surrounded by the smell of REAL INK! not the heated ozone stench of laser printing.... but real, live, inky-ink. Mmmmmm... I love the smell of ink in the morning... or afternoon for that matter.

The cover was a nice cardstock from French papers... the inside? the inside was newsprint. Fabulous newsprint!
the orange and black and metallic gold of the ink was fabulous! It was font-porn for the designer in me.

Thank you House Industries. You have made my day.

Theatre poster

A recent poster for our local theatre. I've been working on different media creation and I'm trending toward posters and postcards. These have been fun. I'm scheduled to create a new poster each month for the theatre season. We'll see how it goes.
