School Daze

I have spent the last few days at my son's school helping his class disect frogs.
This the first opportunity for this group of kids to experience this type of forensic science.Being a mother, I was quite proud to see my son needing very little, if any help to disect his frog. Being a classroom helper- I was amused mostly at the teacher's aid being 'grossed out' by them. A few children were mock ill. I didn't see any real vomit- just playacting.
It's been a few years since bio-med classes, but I did OK. Not great, but OK finding all the internal organs.
The smell is just as bad, in case you were wondering.

10.... 9.... 8......

As you can see. Jacob worked hard on his Rocket for about the last month. We had 2 very successful launches, and one good landing.... One of the hazards of living in the country is... well, the country. The trees were our downfall for the second landing. As of right now, the rocket is still there. More on how to retrieve rockets from trees on a different post.

Two of my favorite portraits

I would have to say that I think these are two of my favorite portraits to date of the boys.

Family Heritage

My father sent me a picture of (from left to right) My great Uncle Roy, My Great Aunt Chitra, and My Grandfather, Lee Meharry. This photo was taken when they were probably in the age rage of 8-12? (I'm guessing here) I've been amazed to see the resemblance between the men in my family line. My son looks like he could have been a twin to my grandfather! I've always said that my son and my brother looked remarkably like Grandpa Lee.

This is as close as I can find for a visual reference for Jacob. He's making kind of a stinker face in this picture. He generally doesn't like to have his photo taken.

First day of school

Jacob and Judd got on the bus without a hitch this morning. First day of Kindergarten for Judd means extra supplies in the backpack. I couldn't believe the amount of glue this kid had to take to school!

Indiana Beach

We spend the better part of the day on Sunday at Indiana Beach in sunny Monticello, Indiana Located on the banks of Lake Shafer.
Jim and I argued about the merits of what path to take, 25 North through Delphi, or 43 up through Brookston and over from there. Jim hates going 'My Way' which is 25 up through Delphi.. and prefers the boring, straight route with no scenery to speak of.... Of course, I can't give him directions because he second guesses me and my navigating skills. So, he turns merily onto 25 N with full intentions of going under I-65 and magically being on 43. I ask him... "so, are you going to take 65 over to 43?".
His reply, "I'm on 43".
A minute passes while I digest this....
I ask him, "Do you want to turn up here, heading back to 43?" (Meaning go back to where we started)
I of course could never tell him that he had actually done something wrong. God forbid I correct him. He might take offense at that. So, I let him drive until he sees the sign stating: State Road 25.
He mutters a choice explative and says, "F*&^% it, too late to turn back now..." Getting pretty steamed up at himself for not listening to me.
I rescued the day by making him laugh at himself... "So. While were on 43, looking at all the NON scenery... You want to just keep on 43, not turning around to get on 43 at all?"

Smiling and a little red around the collar, he mutters and keeps on 25.

Jacob on safari at Indiana Beach. I was amazed that the camera on my motorola Rzr would take this picture: Tracking the camera with the subject, keeping subject in foucs, while blurring the scenery.
